Introduction

The Saana Haatharu (Little Hands) project is a comprehensive initiative designed to introduce and promote Chinese culture, language, and additional curriculum activities within secondary-level schools. Its primary focus is on fostering an understanding and appreciation of the Chinese language, its rich cultural heritage, and history among students. This program is executed through collaboration with Chinese volunteers, ensuring a holistic approach to cultural exchange and educational enhancement.

The Objectives of the Saana Haatharu project:

Outcomes

Three schools namely Bal Bikash English Boarding School; Nawaratna English Boarding School and Eris Academy were provided with stationaries, Chinese traditional costumes and other teaching aids. The stationeries included calligraphy pad, notebooks and Chinese textbooks. They also received Chinese traditional costumes like han fu and kung fu dress along with other Chinese cultural dresses. In addition, projectors, speakers, electric curtains that are beneficial for teaching and learning were also provided.

The major outcome of the Saana Haatharu project can be multifaceted:

Students develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Chinese language, culture, and history through diverse educational materials and activities.

Students are provided with ample resources and opportunities to learn the Chinese language, fostering linguistic abilities and intercultural communication.

 Through participation in various cultural programs and activities, students actively engage with Chinese traditions, fostering a sense of global citizenship and cultural appreciation.

 The incorporation of modern technology creates an innovative learning environment, facilitating more effective and engaging educational experiences for the students.

Overall, the program aims to enrich the educational landscape by promoting cultural diversity, language proficiency, and technological advancement within the secondary-level school system. The tangible outcomes involve a more enriched educational experience and a deeper appreciation for Chinese culture and language among the participating students.
